Practical Steps to Train (and Become) an AI-Era Physician

Practical Steps to Becoming an AI-Era Physician

Session Overview

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how physicians access information, interpret complex data, communicate, and make clinical decisions. Rather than focusing solely on individual AI applications, this session will use a complex real-world critical care case to demonstrate how physicians can progressively develop the skills needed to work effectively in an AI-enabled healthcare environment.

The case involves an elderly patient with severe pneumonia complicated by in-hospital cardiac arrest, mixed septic and cardiogenic shock, VA-ECMO support, mechanical ventilation, continuous kidney replacement therapy (CKRT), Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia, hemoadsorption therapy, prolonged kidney replacement therapy, and eventual kidney recovery.

What Will Be Covered

  • Use of AI to organize and interpret complex longitudinal clinical information
  • AI-assisted literature retrieval and evidence synthesis
  • Support for differential diagnosis, clinical reasoning, and decision review
  • Integration of hemodynamic, respiratory, renal, hematologic, and extracorporeal support data
  • Applications of AI in documentation, workflow optimization, and multidisciplinary communication
  • Recognition of hallucinations, bias, incomplete context, and other limitations of generative AI
  • Principles of privacy, accountability, transparency, and responsible AI use
  • Strategies for effective human-AI collaboration without compromising clinical judgment

What Participants Will Learn

Participants will learn how to identify clinical tasks that may benefit from AI support, formulate effective prompts and questions, verify AI-generated information, and incorporate these tools into daily practice. The session will emphasize that AI should enhance—not replace—clinical reasoning, professional responsibility, and patient-centered care.

Target Audience

Physicians, fellows, residents, medical educators, clinical researchers, allied healthcare professionals, and healthcare leaders interested in the responsible integration of AI into clinical practice.

  • AI-assisted literature search 與 evidence synthesis
  • Privacy、accountability、transparency 與 responsible AI use
