This session will discuss the complex management of acute liver failure complicated by acute kidney injury and the need for extracorporeal support.

The case involves hepatitis B virus-associated acute liver failure with rapid clinical deterioration, progressive hyperbilirubinemia, hepatic encephalopathy, and AKI.

The discussion will focus on differentiating acute liver failure from acute-on-chronic liver failure, recognizing ALF-associated AKI, determining ICU admission and monitoring strategies, and prescribing CRRT in this high-risk population.

The session will also address the role of extracorporeal liver support therapies, including plasma exchange and MARS, as potential bridging strategies to liver transplantation.
